Capsule Geology

The Otto 1 occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 940 metres on a gentle north-facing slope, west of Finlayson Creek and approximately 800 metres southwest of its junction with McDame Creek.

Regionally, the area of the occurrence is mapped as being underlain by Pennsylvanian to Permian basaltic volcanic rocks and fine, clastic, Mississippian sedimentary rocks, both of the Slide Mountain Complex. To the east serpentinite ultramafic rocks and basaltic intrusive of the Permian Blue Dome fault zone (Slide Mountain Complex) are exposed.

Locally, quartz veins, up to 0.40 metre wide, host minor gold values.

In 1984, two rock samples (E6363 and E6364) assayed 0.8 and 1.9 grams per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 14371).

Work History

In 1981, Kent Energy prospected and sampled the area as the Duff, Otto, Hall, Amy, Kitt, Neil, Kent claims. During 1984 through 1986, Erickson Gold Mining completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and a ground magnetic survey on the Bear, Hale, Kitt and Otto claims.

During 2008 through 2010, Hawthorne Gold Corp., later China Minerals Mining Corp., completed regional programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and 11,657 line-kilometres of airborne magnetic, radiometric and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Cassiar Gold property.

In 2019, Margaux Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling on the area immediately east as the Cassiar Gold property. In 2020, Cassiar Gold Corp. completed a program of regional photogeological interpretation, prospecting and rock sampling on the Cassiar Gold property.
